AB1668 & SB606: Making Water Conservation a California Way of Life: Outdoor Standards
A Talk by Charlotte Ely , Chris Hyun and Karina Herrera
About this Talk
In order to have enough water for critical needs, Californians must save water by reducing outdoor water use. This requires that we reimagine our landscapes. In this workshop, we will discuss how the State Water Board is developing regulation this year to Make Water Conservation a Way of Life as outlined in California bills, AB 1668 & SB 606 (2018). The State Water Board is setting new standards for urban outdoor water use efficiency, both residential and commercial/industrial/institutional (CII). Reducing outdoor water use requires a variety of stakeholders to advocate for climate and locally appropriate landscapes and support for disadvantaged communities. This workshop will be facilitated by the State Water Board's Conservation Unit that is coordinating the water efficiency rulemaking and will include an overview of the regulatory framework, current research on the impacts on landscapes, related state climate initiatives, and time for Q&A and roundtable discussion.
